In 1882 Pierre Comet invented, on the banks of the Adour, at Bagnères-de-Bigorre, the Pyrenean cloth. He wanted to create a practical, strong, supple and warm product similar to the Pyrenean shepherds’ caps and was the first one to have the idea of mixing woollen material with cotton welf.

Mix of two natural fibres whose properties are complementary for well-being and comfort :

COTTON is not altered when combined; it gives the necessary stability and strength, prevents the material from loosing its shape and wearing out, and lets it breath and absorb the humidity of the body.

WOOL has a great calorific power which is increased by the mixing and gives the material a soft and gentle touch, thus enclosing a thin layer of insulating air.

This combined WOOL and COTTON material is the best quality of weaving in the Pyrenees. It carries through an ancestral tradition and offers a good quality product.

Various Pyrenean wool products are available from the shops in Lourdes :
