The Pyrenees National Park
|
It is a genuine protected sanctuary (45,000 hectares) and a place to observe wild fauna (izards, birds of prey, marmots, Pyrenean flora: 1,200 species). Created in 1967, le Pyrenees National Park spreads over the Aspe valley to the west, the Néouvielle massif to the east, and stops at the Spanish border, covering an area of 500km2. Its wild life and natural beauty have been wholly preserved.
It contains several of the beautiful summits in the Pyrenean range: the Midi d’Ossau peak, Balaïtous, Vignemale, Marboré, the cirques of Gavarnie, Lys, Troumouse, Estaubé, Barroude, and some natural sights such as the famous waterfalls of the Pont d’Espagne and the Brèche de Roland…
To gain quick access from Lourdes, go to Arrens Marsous (25km) or Cauterets (30km).
